Mechanical room organization

The mechanical room, it might even be a closet in your home, not a whole room, I certainly wish ours was much smaller. How often do you go into this room in your house? 1 time a month, 2 times a year? I bet you don't even think about cleaning it, even during spring cleaning...why would you? This room is so small and even we hardly ever go in here. Since I don't like to waste space, here are the things that we have done to utilize this area in our home.

First I will just address this thing,

normal people don't have a networking rack in their home. My husband is all cyber everything and decided to get this for his computer needs, he doesn't even use most of this space any more now that his man cave is not in the house. So it holds our surround sound box, DVD player, external hard drive thing, internet routers, and who knows what else this crap is but I sure don't. Any ways it is great to hold items for the media part of this closet, but very much over kill.

I have our giant printer in here, it is a beast but it lasts forever and it is so easy to buy new toner for and refill it myself.

We got this from a college overstock sale. Because it is so big I don't like it taking up space in my craft room and the hubby doesn't want it in his office, so it has been bannished to the mechanical room.

We had this whole empty space here that just got junk put in it to better use the space we built some really deep shelves to put our long term food storage in (most can be stored up to 25 yrs).

Incase you don't know during the summer and fall is when we do most of our food storage stuff like canning, freeze drying, dehydrating, exc. Any ways this area has been perfect for storing food that we don't need to get to on a regular basis.

We also have some blue 55 gallons drums of water for food storage in here.

Along with all the normal machanical room things a water heater, water softener, water filter, and central air stuff. I'd say that we have done our best to use every square foot of space in here that we can, lol.

Since this room is used the least it is most likely to get bugs in it, putting those sticky traps in here helps that. I actually don't have any in here any more, instead every year I spray outside 2x to repel bugs and spiders, this has worked amazingly!

After I took out any extra stuff in here I swept and did a deep clean on our water filter that catches alot of the iron that we get in our area.

Spring cleaning is also a good time to change out the air filter ours is here.

It is good to change them out 2x's per year at least! If you have pets that shed a lot 1x per month would be good for you since they get clogged with hairs.

That's it, it was super easy and took maybe 30 mins to complete the spring cleaning in this room.

It would have taken longer had I tried to organize the media rack, but I would prefer to just not break anything, haha. Is your mechanical room like ours at all?

To see me continue my spring cleaning follow me on Instagram @_countrysparkles_ where I will share lots of stories and the progress as I move through my home.
