Creating Large Wall Sayings With A Small Vinyl Cutter

Do you like to decorate your home with vinyl projects that you have created? Do you wish you could do those large wall saying but you only have a small machine?

I am here to tell you that you can! Even if you have a small machine. It may take a little more time but you can do it! I even do large projects for clients and friends!

You are probably like me and have some type of cutting machine sitting at home, maybe you got it this last year or 9 years ago like I did! Wow I can't believe it has been that long. No matter what machine you have you have probably used it enough to know the basics of how it works. If not get on that! You can do sooo much with it!

What I do is I start out with the area that I am going to use for example this area that my vinyl needs to fill is 46L x32H. Now go back to elementary school brain and you are going to use the division you learned there.

I started with the height and I looked at the vinyl example she sent me ( I have no idea where she got this pic from) and divided it into sections to decided how tall each character should be like this,

So from this you can see I decided that these words should be 5 inches tall, even the larger image in the middle I just said, meh that looks 3 inches bigger then the others so I will make that 8 inches. For the length I though it looks like it can divide into 3 different sections nicely with space in between so I will count that as section 4.

I divided into 4 sections meant that each section would be 11.5 in each which is perfect for what the width of my machine can cut so I went with that.

If you aren't good at visualizing it in your head then rough draw and it out on paper, put it on your wall just like you would want it and then measure what you have done.

The main thing is you have a plan and then design it in your program!

I rearranged everything to best fit my space on the vinyl ( I really don't like to waste materials less waste also means that I can charge less) and then cut and weeded.

Weeding is a dream when the images are so big isn't it?

Now I lay it out on my wall marking off an area so I know my boundaries. Here is the fun part arranging and seeing it come together I like to do this because then if there is a piece that is too small or big it is no big deal I can just adjust and cut it again. But I luckily haven't had to do that.

Here is what it looks like at my house all laid out.

I took it down and then headed to my friends house. at her home I started at the bottom middle piece because it looked most centered and placed all the different pieces from there into a general area and then went back and made the spacing even by sight. I also enlisted some help from my handy level and masking tape to make 2 straight lines on the apply with in line and wash dry repeat line. It helped so much!

I left the pieces taped to where they were and just took off the white paper on the back where it was so nothing moved then I placed it right where it was.

Here it is the final product. and I loved how it turned out!!!

Now go have fun with your own project and dont be scared to just do it! Even if you completely mess it up that is ok I know you will learn from what happened and you WILL create something that you love!

Happy vinyling!
